A teenage son of Salifu Amoako has been sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center after being convicted of manslaughter for his role in a tragic car accident in East Legon. The accident claimed the lives of two passengers.
The incident occurred when the teenager, driving without a license, collided with another vehicle, resulting in the instant deaths of two people.
Court Proceedings
Initially, the teenager pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license. However, he later changed his plea to guilty, leading to his conviction and subsequent sentencing.
As part of the court’s ruling, the teenager is required to report to probation officers every two weeks. Additionally, he has been ordered to sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18.
Parents Held Accountable
In a separate judgment, the court imposed a fine of 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢6,000, on the teenager’s parents for their failure to properly supervise him.
The parents were also directed to cover the cost of damages caused during the accident, including a light pole valued at GH¢8,000.
This case underscores the importance of parental supervision and adherence to road safety regulations, especially among underage drivers.
