Ghana’s Black Stars defeated Sao Tome and Principe on Monday in their second outing in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The game started on a very slow pace due to the poor nature of the field and despite Ghana’s dominant display the first half ended goalless.
The four-time African champions failed to punish their opponents when Jordan Ayew was gifted the ball in the final – third of the field by the home side’s goalkeeper as Samuel Owusu’s strike was blocked by the defenders.
The Black Stars scored in the second half thanks to a converted penalty from Jordan Ayew on the 48th minutes after team-mate Emmanuel Owusu was brought down.
SC Paderborn attacker Christopher Antwi Adjei was given his Ghana debut in the second half when he replaced Samuel Owusu. The rest of the half witnessed a few chances but both keepers were on guard to ensure the game ended 1-0 in favour of the Ghanaians.
Ghana have six points from two games and are on top of their group followed by Sudan and South Africa on three points each leaving Sao Tome and Principe with no point.
