Over 100 people at Mensakrom, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, have been displaced after fire destroyed their thatch houses.
Though officials are yet to give full details of the incident, correspondent Nana Anfreh Damanta said at least 15 thatch houses were razed down by the inferno.
Nana Anfreh also reports that the fire started just before 1:30 pm Monday while the natives were on their farms.
However, “the fire started to spread because of the wind towards the thatch houses and burnt everything,” Anfreh said.
No property belonging to the residents was recovered, he indicated.
An opinion leader who also doubles as Assemblyman for Buoku Electoral Area, Mustapha Musah is appealing to the Municipal Assembly for support.
He added that the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) was yet to be informed and “a damage assessment would be done for assistance”.
The cause of the fire was, however, not known at the time of filing this report.
