Senegal and Nigeria sailed through to the semi finals of the 2019 AFCON with hard fought wins over Benin and South Africa respectively.
At the June 30 Stadium in Cairo, Idrissa Gana Gueye’s superb strike in the 70th minute won the game for Senegal against a resilient Beninese side.
Gueye collected a pass from Sadio Mane and weaved his magic inside the box before firing to the blind side of goalkeeper Allagbe for the only goal of the game.
Elsewhere at the Cairo International Stadium, Udinese central defender William Troost-Ekong had the easiest task of planting the ball at the back of the net for Nigeria ‘s winner after goalkeeper Williams had failed to grab an in swinging corner kick.
Both the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana had earlier on traded goals with Samuel Chukwueze opening the scoring in the 27th minute before midfield matchine Bogdani Zungu equalised in the 71st minute.
Algeria will face Ivory Coast in the first quarter finals game on Thursday while Tunisia who are yet to win a game in the tournament within regulation time also entertain surprised package Madagascar.
