The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a nationwide strike starting on Monday, September 16, 2024, in response to the government’s continued failure to meet their demands for better working conditions, despite several protests and negotiations.
In a statement issued on September 13 and signed by National Chairman George Ansong, the Association expressed frustration over the government’s failure to honour previously agreed commitments. The statement outlined several key concerns.
The SSA-UoG stated that the government has failed to implement agreed-upon new rates for Vehicle Maintenance and related allowances.
Additionally, the Association pointed out that since January 2024, the government has not released Tier Two pension deductions to Fund Managers. They also criticized the government for its failure to recalculate interest on Tier Two pension funds from 2010 to 2016.
Due to the government’s inaction, the SSA-UoG has directed all member campuses to fully comply with the strike order, stressing that they have been left with no other option but to resort to these drastic measures.
The SSA-UoG’s statement concluded with a firm call for action, citing the need for the government to address their grievances immediately.
