Six officers are being interrogated for allegedly inflicting knife wounds on a suspect, police in the Ashanti Region said on Friday.
The incident happened at about 4:30 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
The officers are from the Community Police Assistant Unit at the Tafo-Pankrono District Police Command, Dailymailgh.com has learnt.
It is gathered that the officers were part of a team deployed to criminal hideouts within the Tafo-Pankrono Community and its environs to embark on an operation.
Police said in a report that the suspect-turned-victim, Emmanuel Appiah, was part of a group of people who pelted the team with stones during the operation at Suame Magazine — a local retail hub in Kumasi.
He was arrested and brought to the police station for interrogation.
Appiah, who was spotted bleeding profusely told the police that he was stabbed by one of the officers during an ensuing struggle.
He was immediately rushed to the Tafo-Pankrono Government Hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
The six suspects have since been detained as police continue investigations.
Four other suspects who were arrested during the operation are also in police custody.
Police retrieved dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp from the four suspects.
