A violent chieftaincy dispute in Gomoa Obuasi, located in the Central Region, has left six people injured, including Agya Amoh, the head of the Asona Royal Family. The clash erupted when a youth group supporting one faction launched an attack during a community meeting, leading to property destruction.

According to reports, tensions escalated after the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah, installed Kwabena Atta as caretaker chief following the passing of the town’s substantive chief. However, the Regent of Gomoa Obuasi has refused to cede authority, resulting in repeated confrontations between the factions.

“We were waiting to have a meeting, and suddenly, we saw stones flying through the air from outside at around 9 to 10 a.m. Several roofs of the palace have been destroyed, including two vehicles,” said Nana Mbir Asomako, describing the attack.

He further expressed concerns over ongoing threats from the opposing faction. “They claim they do not fear the police and will continue to terrorise us. We had indications that they were planning to burn the entire place down, so we decided to leave the palace. The police have been duly informed,” he added.

Security personnel have been alerted to the situation as tensions remain high in the area. Authorities are expected to intervene to prevent further violence and restore calm.
