The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, has assured the public that there will be no shortage of election materials or equipment during the upcoming December 7 elections.

Speaking at what she described as her final media engagement before the election day on December 7, 2024, Mrs. Mensa emphasized that all necessary materials had been distributed across the country in sufficient quantities. “We don’t anticipate any shortage in any part of the country,” she stated.

Voter Participation

Mrs. Mensa revealed that 18,774,159 registered voters, representing 55% of the total population, are expected to participate in the elections.

Special Voting

Providing an update on the recently concluded special voting exercise, she highlighted its success, noting a high voter turnout. “The lowest turnout was 83 per cent,” she disclosed.

Media Accreditation

Mrs. Mensa also shared that the Commission had granted media accreditation to nearly 10,000 journalists. This will enable them to access polling stations, as well as constituency and regional collation centers. She urged journalists to fulfill their responsibility by reporting facts and truthfully informing the public.

“Rise to the task and cover elections accurately and truthfully,” she appealed.

Observers

On the involvement of election observers, the EC Chair noted that over 20,000 local and international observers had been accredited. She added that they had been provided with maps to help them locate polling centers.
