A group of NPP members in the diaspora are rallying support for the Vice President’s candidature as the flagbearer race heats up.
The volunteer group Diaspora4DMB comprising members from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom is urging NPP delegates to vote massively for the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the November polls.
At a press conference on Monday (30 October) in Kumasi the group underscored their unwavering commitment and endorsement of the Vice President, citing his achievements and qualities in the wake of the social and global challenges.
“Dr Bawumia is Ghana’s only sure bet of continuity of policies that are transforming Ghana to be like the countries Ghanaian youth are investing so many resources to relocate to. We enjoy living in those countries where the system works 24/7 and we need a president who would build similar systems in Ghana.
“No strong man can transform Ghana without strong institutions”, said Kingsley Duodu Ahenkorah, Chairman of the group as he listed a raft of achievements by the Vice President including the issuance of the Ghana Card, and Mobile Money Interoperability among others.
Diaspora4DMB thus believes Dr Bawumia’s candidacy is a perfect catalyst to fight the NDC strongholds and promote a massive win for the party in the 2024 elections.
“Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy represents a ground-breaking shift in Ghana’s political landscape. His emergence is reminiscent of transformative leaders like Barack Obama in the United States. Like Obama emerged on the political scene in the USA and won against more experienced politicians at the primaries and the presidential elections, so has Dr Bawumia emerged in Ghana.
“We, Diaspora4DMB believe a consensus would be built successfully to choose a very experienced vice-presidential candidate to partner with Bawumia to defeat the NDC”, the group said.
Dr Bawumia is tipped to lead the governing party after this fierce contest on November 4. Three others – Former Mampong MP Addai Nimoh, Assin Central MO Kennedy Agyapong and Former Agric Minister Dr Afriyie Akoto – are all in the race.
