Parents of a nine-year-old girl are outraged after they discovered their daughter was violently caned by her female teacher for failing to do her homework.
The victim [name withheld] was sent to the Manhyia Government Hospital after she narrated her ordeal Wednesday night, sparking another debate about corporal punishment.
Medical reports show the victim, a pupil of Happy Royals International School –a privately-run facility –suffered multiple bruises on the back and buttocks.
It is gathered that a formal complaint has been filed at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service– Manhyia Division, for further action.
Mother of the victim, Saratu Adamu, says her daughter is traumatized as she adds it wasn’t the first time such incident had happened to her daughter.
“I called my husband immediately she [the victim] narrated her ordeal to me. So we have reported the matter to the police. We are considering withdrawing her from the school; my daughter is traumatized”, she said.
The school is located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region. Officials of the Ghana Education Service have since summoned proprietor of the school for questioning.
