The Medical Superintendent of the SDA Hospital at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region has died days after he declined testing for Coronavirus, Dailymailgh.com has gathered.
Dr Harry Boateng, who was due for a mandatory testing for the virus, was found dead by some relatives at his Atwima Kwanwoma home over the weekend.
He was said to have tested positive for the virus after an encounter with a patient and had known of his status even before he was approached by contact tracers to get him tested.
While samples of several contact staff had been tested and asked to self-isolate, the victim, who was in his early 40s, refused to do so, as he was seen at post until his untimely death, according to multiple sources at the hospital.
“He knew he had Covid-19, but refused to self-isolate. He negligently did not adhere to safety protocols; even at a point hospital authorities resolved he would undergo the mandatory testing on Monday,” a source told Dailymailgh.com.
“We were not happy about the doctor’s blatant disregard for social protocols at the hospital especially when he told us he had Covid-19 but would not get tested,” another source said.
His death has compelled health authorities to order an immediate disinfection exercise at his residence, the Kwadaso SDA Hospital, where he worked and parts of the Kumasi South Hospital in the Asokwa Municipality.
An SOS Village located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, will also be disinfected as the deceased, who was also a Paediatrician, had been frequenting the facility.
Contact tracing has been intensified to get samples for testing as fears grow of a possible spread of the virus at these institutions.
Social media has expressed shock at the sudden demise of the man who has always been described as “friendly” and “accommodating”.
