On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, heavy rains led to a power outage at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana, disrupting airport operations and causing delays in both arrivals and departures.
The interruption halted check-in processes and security screenings, inconveniencing many passengers.
In a brief statement, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) explained that although backup generators activated as designed, an electrical system fault delayed power distribution to the terminal.
The statement read, “The backup power generating system came on as expected, but an electrical system fault prevented the deployment of power to the terminal. Power was fully restored at 18.19hrs.”
GACL further expressed regret for the disruption, adding, “Management extends its sincere apologies to passengers who were affected by the brief downtime and reiterates its commitment to provide seamless passenger facilitation at the airport.”
