The Tumu Senior High Technical School in the Upper West region of Ghana has been closed down after students vandalized school property, officials confirmed Friday.
The students have destroyed properties including teachers’ bungalows, lighting and water systems worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.
They were protesting the arrest of their colleagues who were picked up for cheating in the WASSCE examination with mobile phones.
They also stormed the Headmaster’s residence, the Senior Housemaster’s and also visited terror on the residences on other members of staff, the media reported.
The MCE of Sissala East Karim Nayo said the protesting students also destroyed electrical appliances among others.
The police have also confirmed the arrest.
“We have arrested about 24 of them. They are currently in our custody and we are yet to screen them in order to identify the main culprits in order to process them for court”, Divisional Police Commander, DSP Stephen Abanga told MyNewsGH.com
