The police have shot and killed two suspected carjackers after they struck the owner of a Nissan Murano vehicle in Accra earlier this week.

They were said to have fled with the vehicle from Accra to Asamankese where they were intercepted by the police during a dawn operation on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command said in a statement that the two were killed after sustaining gunshot wounds as they engaged the uniformed men in a fierce crossfire.

One other accomplice identified as Erasmus Somuah Sekyi was, however, arrested in the process, the statement said.

The Nissan Murano vehicle has since been retrieved as police detain the suspect to assist investigations.

Meanwhile, the yet-to-be-identified bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra awaiting pathological examination.

“The Command further warns criminals that the police will not relent on its efforts in combatting violent crimes in the metropolis”, the statement noted.
