Two killed, one injured during Homowo celebration at Abossey Okai

Two persons were killed while one other got wounded after gunmen opened fire into a crowd — which was observing Homowo, a popular festival observed by the chiefs and people of the Ga state – in Accra.

The Saturday night incident which occurred at Abbosey Okai also left one person injured, a situation medics at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital say is life-threatening.

Though no group has been linked to the incident, it still remains unclear about the circumstances that led to the attack.

Police Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Headquarters, DSP Effia Tenge told Accra-based Joy News that an arrest is yet to be made.

“The chiefs and some people of Abossey Okai had organized their Homowo celebration without notifying the police and whilst they were performing some indoor rites gunshots were heard outside the stool house and unfortunately two passed on whilst receiving treatment after they were rushed to the facility”, the police spokesperson narrated.

The police are appealing to the general public to provide credible information that will lead to the arrest of the assailants.

The identities of the victims are yet to be made public as Dailymailgh.com understands some chiefs will be invited for questioning in connection with the incident.
