Tensions have flared in the Northern Region town of Bimbilla after a violent clash left two persons wounded.
The two reportedly sustained gunshot wounds after police fired shots to disperse members of the Napkpaa Naa family who had besieged the chief’s palace to observe the Damba festival Thursday.
The family members who became angry over the development set bonfires in protest against the police action.
Security has been beefed up in the area pointing to planned further attacks.
It is gathered that the Northern Regional Security Council will give further details over the development.
Dusk-to-dawn curfew renewed in Bole
In a related development, the Ministry of the Interior on Wednesday, November 13, renewed the curfew hours imposed on the Bole township in the Savannah Region.
While calling for calm, government urged the community to respect the directive.
DailymailGh.com gathers that the directive follows a ban on the Damba festival by the Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbowura Tuntumba Bore Essa I.
The ban has been necessitated by a lingering dispute over the Bole skin which has led to a clash between two factions.
The dispute has since been put before the judiciary committee of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs for a resolution while the Ministry of Interior has also imposed a curfew on the Bole township.
In order to ensure peace in the area, the King of Gonjaland in a press release has banned the celebration of the Damba festival in the Bole township.
The statement further entreats the Savannah Regional Security Council to take measures to stop any celebration in the Bole traditional area.
