Two SHS students in court for robbing trader at knife point

Two senior high school students were on Wednesday put before the Juaben Circuit Court for robbing a trader of her mobile phones at knife point.

They have been named as 20-year-old Kwame Frimpong and 17-year-old George Owusu.

The accused were said to have robbed the complainant who resides at Antoa in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti region.

The two, pleaded not guilty to the charge and has since been granted a GHC10,000 bail by the court presided over by Mr Yusif Osei Assibey.

The suspects will reappear on May 24, 2019, with confirmation letters from their schools.

The facts of the case, as presented by Police Inspector Jessey Ashiagmor was that the complainant(name withheld), lives at Antoa, whiles Frimpong and Owusu are students of Antoa Senior High School and Islamic Senior High School respectively.

He said the on April 26, 2019, at about 8p.m., the complainant was attacked by the accused persons in front of her house with cutlasses and took away her iPhone valued at about GHC3,000.00.

He said the complainant was informed that an amount GHC36.00 had been transferred from her Mobile Money account while an amount of GHC67.00 had been borrowed and transferred to another number, belonging to suspect George Owusu-Afiryie.

The complainant quickly informed the police just after Afriyie’s identity popped up on Whatsapp, a social media platform.

Afriyie was subsequently arrested by the police and with the stolen mobile phone retrieved from him after a search.

The police, according to prosecution also apprehended suspect Frimpong after he was named as an accomplice.

They were detained by the police and later arraigned.
