Personnel of the Ghana Police Service in Garu have rejected a GhC6,500 bribe from a suspect, the Service announced in a statement.

According to the command, suspects in a motor bike theft case attempted to bribe the law enforcers, working in the deprived Upper East region’s community, on Thursday to drop the case.

In a statement, the police, which has over the years ranked highest as the most corrupt institution in Ghana, said it is retaining the cash as “exhibit for evidential purposes.”

“The General Public is entreated to refrain from offering bribes to Public Officers during investigations. Instead, they should assist police with information leading to the arrest and prosecution of offenders . The Public is reminded that it is an offence against the state to bribe a Police Officer,” it warned in a statement.
