The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has announced a directive for its members to suspend their ongoing strike by 29 October.
This decision follows several weeks of industrial action that has significantly disrupted academic activities across public universities.
UTAG began the strike on October 10, 2024, in protest against the government’s perceived failure to address the rampant illegal mining (galamsey) activities that have severely impacted river bodies and forest reserves.
In a recent statement, the NEC urged members to return to the classroom, signalling a potential resumption of normalcy in academic operations.
Tertiary students are expected to return to classes on 1 November.
