The High Court in Accra is scheduled to render its verdict on December 4, 2023, in the case of En Huang, also known as Aisha Huang, who faces illegal mining charges. Justice Mrs Lydia Osei-Marfo set the date following the exchange of final legal arguments (addresses) by both the prosecution and the defence counsel.
Aisha Huang has been accused of involvement in illegal mining, particularly in the Ashanti Region. In 2018, she was deported from Ghana after the Attorney-General decided to halt her trial, where she was charged with engaging in small-scale mining without a license.
Subsequently, she reentered Ghana and allegedly resumed the same activities that led to her deportation. The Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, opted to prosecute her for both the prior and new alleged offences committed since her return, claiming that she had an illegal mining concession in the Ashanti Region’s Amansie West District and also operated a mining support services company.
