A fire outbreak at the offices of the Ghana Immigration Service at Elubo has displaced officers at the border.
The fire reportedly started at about 9am after the border was closed by Ghanaian authorities following an outbreak of the Covid-19 disease.
Computers, server machines and other logistics worth thousands of cedis were destroyed by the raging fire.
The Western Regional Fire Command has commenced investigations into the incident.
“The fire started yesterday around 9 pm, the internet server, some computers, files, cabinets and 2 offices were burnt completely. This was last night after we had closed the border. Our investigators are currently investigating the fire because the officers are now reporting to work since they had closed for the day at the time of the incident”, the spokesperson for the Western Regional Fire Command, DO3 Emmanuel Bonney told reporters.
Dailymailgh.com, however, gathered that a full restoration of the office could commence after the Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire border is opened.
The Ghana Immigration Service plays a major role at the country’s borders in the wake of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
President Akufo-Addo announced a shutdown of all entry points into the country as the spread of the Covid-19 disease increases.
The Service is expected to enforce the presidential directive.
