After nearly 48 hours of search, police in Ghana’s Upper West Region has recaptured a Nigerian man with Coronavirus, who escaped from self-isolation.

He was arrested on Friday around the Wa Polytechnic.

Simon Okafor Chukudi escaped from self-isolation at his residence in Wapaani despite testing positive for the virus.

The Upper West Regional Police Command, consequently, mounted a search for him.

He has been handed over the Covid-19 task force and sent to the new regional hospital under heavy security.

Officials of the Ghana Health Service also say seven other contacts have also been isolated and are being monitored.

Residents in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa have expressed mixed feelings as they fear of getting infected with the virus.

The region has registered four Coronavirus cases, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Guinean national still not found

Late in March, a Guinean Covid-19 patient escaped from quarantine in Tamale, the Northern Region capital.

Efforts to recapture her have since been fruitless as fears grow, she may have spread the deadly virus to other parts of the country.

In another development one of two other patients in Accra is also yet to be found after they reportedly escaped during a contact tracing exercise.
