Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan believes the Black Stars team has what it takes to deliver for the nation and qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament in Mexico, Canada and United States of America.
The African player with most goals in the history of the FIFA World Cup tournament is hoping for his country to progress from the group stages and secure a place at the Mundial for the fifth time.
He swiftly admitted that it isn’t going to be an easy ride for Ghana in the group containing Republic of Chad, Mali, Central Africa Republic, Comoros, and Madagascar.
“It looks like we are getting used to the World Cup. 2026 is not going to be easy because the expectation is high back home but we will try our possible best to make sure we also qualify.”
A spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is up for grabs and Ghana will fancy its chances for making it to the tournament after swerving several top teams in Africa including, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco and Africa Champions, Senegal.
The tournament is set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada in the summer of 2026 with Africa given nine slots from five for the first time due to the increase of participating teams.
The qualification process established by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) involves nine groups, each consisting of six teams. The top nine teams from these groups will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Another point is, the four best second-placed teams will be involved in a playoffs and the winners of the exercise facing a team from the CONCACAF zone for a place at the World Cup.
The stage is set as the race to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament starts from November 2023 to November 2025.
