The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has issued a stern caution, promising accountability should the National Democratic Congress (NDC) take power on January 7, 2025. His comments follow the re-collation and declaration of results for seven out of nine contested parliamentary seats, which were ruled in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a High Court decision.

Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of employing unethical tactics to secure these parliamentary seats. He specifically criticized the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for what he described as an abuse of legal processes and misleading public commentary. “When a matter is in court, don’t you respect the judicial process? Today [December 21], Afenyo is holding a press conference, praising the outcomes of exercises that are still pending before the Supreme Court. And then he tells me to accept it in good faith because we are brothers. We are not brothers, Afenyo, we are not,” Dafeamekpor stated.

The MP also accused Afenyo-Markin of fabricating claims to enhance his public statements and warned against such practices. “Some of these falsehoods, Afenyo should desist from this conduct. He must stop concocting stories to embellish his press conferences,” he said. He further asserted that the NPP’s perceived hold on power is weakening as momentum shifts toward the NDC.

“They may hold government positions now, but the real power has slipped from their grasp and is transitioning to us [NDC]. When we take over, we will demonstrate where true power lies,” Dafeamekpor declared.

The MP made these remarks during an interview with TV3 on Saturday, December 21, while the re-collation process was ongoing at the Electoral Commission’s Greater Accra regional office.
