West Ham United’s captain, Kurt Zouma, has shared insights into his experiences during the holy month of Ramadan alongside his Muslim teammates, Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd.

Zouma, the towering defender, has been showcasing exceptional form for West Ham, propelling them to a commendable 7th position on the league table with 45 points garnered from 31 matches.

“Like I said, two brothers, Nayef [Aguerd] and Mo [Kudus], fasting with them makes it a bit easier,” Zouma remarked, highlighting the camaraderie and support they share during Ramadan. “We talk to each other, we laugh together, who is hungry, who is thirsty… To have people around who fast as well even feel better,” he added.

The 29-year-old French center-back has been a pivotal figure for West Ham since his arrival in 2021, transferring from Chelsea for a hefty £29.8 million fee and signing a four-year contract. His leadership on and off the field has been instrumental in guiding West Ham to success.

Zouma played a crucial role in West Ham’s triumph in the UEFA Europa League final in 2023, where they secured a memorable 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Prague. His defensive prowess and commanding presence were evident throughout the campaign, inspiring his teammates to victory.

Aguerd, aged 28, made his move to West Ham in 2022, signing a lucrative 5-year deal worth £30 million after showcasing his talent in Ligue 1 with Rennes. Similarly, the 23-year-old Mohammed Kudus joined West Ham from Dutch top-flight side Ajax in a deal valued at £38 million plus add-ons, demonstrating the club’s ambition to secure promising talents for the future.

The trio’s bond extends beyond the football pitch, as they come together to observe Ramadan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims worldwide. Sharing this experience creates a sense of solidarity and unity within the team, fostering a supportive environment for all players, regardless of their background or beliefs.

As West Ham continues to strive for success on multiple fronts, Zouma’s leadership and the collective spirit of the team, strengthened by the unity forged during Ramadan, will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their pursuit of glory. With each player contributing their skills and dedication, West Ham aims to build on their achievements and solidify their status as a competitive force in English football.
