The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a stern notice of disconnection to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital in Somanya, citing an outstanding debt of GHC 1,398,955.40.

The hospital, which has reportedly not made any payments to ECG since April 2022, received the disconnection notice on Thursday (22 February).

This move comes as part of ECG’s ongoing efforts to bolster revenue collection, targeting all categories of customers, including state-owned enterprises (SOEs). The hospital, situated within the Krobo District of the Tema Region, falls within the purview of this initiative.

Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Tema regional public relations officer of ECG, emphasised the importance of timely payment for electricity services to avoid disconnection, stating, “ECG encourages all customers to pay for their electricity timely to avoid disconnection.”

The notice of disconnection serves as a stark reminder of the financial challenges faced by various institutions, even in vital sectors such as healthcare. The Yilo Krobo District Hospital now faces the imminent threat of power outage unless the outstanding debt is settled promptly.
