Ghana’s Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has paid a heartwarming tribute to Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan on his official retirement on Tuesday evening , June 20, 2023.
Ayew, who played alongside Gyan in the Ghana national team for over a decade was full of praise and admiration for the former Ghana captain.
Ayew described the former Black Stars captain as a true warrior who served his nation with so much pride and passion and would be missed so dearly on the pitch.
“A true warrior who served his nation with so much pride and passion. You’re and remain great example to many in this sport.”
“It was an absolute honour to have played 12 years with you in the National team. This beautiful game will miss you on the pitch. I wish you all the best in your retirement, You Are A Legend”, he added.
Gyan played at six different Africa Cup of Nations tournament and scored eight goals for the Black Stars team and played in two finals.
Gyan was the fulcrum of the Black Stars team in his illustrious playing career and took Ghana twice to the finals in the Africa Cup of Nations tournaments losing to Egypt and Ivory Coast in 2010 and 2015.
Gyan scored six goals at three World Cup tournaments between 2006 and 2014 with his first and last coming against Czech Republic in 2006 in Germany and Portugal in 2014 in Brazil.
He’s Ghana’s all time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances including eight goals at seven AFCON tournaments.
